Afganistan Vs Bangladesh

Afghanistan defeats Bangladesh by 92 runs in the first ODI after a dramatic collapse.

In the opening one-day international of the three-match ODI series, Afghanistan beat Bangladesh by 92 runs on Wednesday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. With a 52-run partnership, Soumya Sarkar and Najmul Hossain Shanto helped Bangladesh recover from an early wicket loss. Shanto and Mehidy Hasan kept up their fantastic effort, but once he collapsed, it was a parade.

Soumya Sarkar and skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto swiftly advanced and placed Bangladesh ahead of the asking rate, despite Ghazanfar's early incision in taking off opener Tanzid Hasan in the fourth over. With the dismissal of Sarkar, medium-pacer Azmatullah Omarzai ended the 53-run partnership, but Bangladesh rallied with another innings-advancing stand between Najmul and No. 4 hitter Mehidy Hasan Miraz.

Bangladesh's batting meltdown had a negative impact on their preparation for the Champions Trophy in Pakistan the following year. In 8.4 frantic overs, Bangladesh went from 120 for 2 to 143 all-out, with Afghanistan's 18-year-old offspinner Allah Ghazanfar taking six wickets.

Until the pivotal 26th over from Mohammad Nabi, the pair continued the chase over the halfway point and even lowered the asking rate. By placing his deep square leg fielder on second slip and enticing Najmul to sweep against the turn, the veteran performed a clever field shift. After juggling it a few times, Shahidi caught it at short fine leg after the left-hander fell for it and top-edged his effort. Afghanistan took advantage of this tiny gap to weaken Bangladesh's defenses. In the 31st over, Ghazanfar came back to attack and wreaked havoc, taking Mehidy's wicket first.

Bangladesh's bowlers put them in a stronger position at the midway point long before the batsmen messed up their lines. Afghanistan was suffering at 71 for 5 in 20 overs as Taskin Ahmed (4 for 53) and Mustafizur Rahman (4 for 58) tore through the top order. The following twenty overs were devoted to repairs by Captain Shahidi and Nabi, who put up 104 for the sixth wicket before Mustafizur dismissed the former. Nabi made an effort to continue in the presence of the lower-order, but Shahidi walked off for 52 (92).

Although it wasn't much, he managed to get the side over the 200-run threshold before becoming Taskin's third wicket. He scored an outstanding 84 off 79 balls, which featured three sixes and four fours. The final few runs from Nangeyalia Kharote's undefeated 27 were crucial in helping Afghanistan surge to 235, which was more than enough to take a commanding 1-0 lead in the three-match series.

Brief Scores: Afghanistan defeated Bangladesh 143 in 34.3 overs (Najmul Hossain Shanto 47; Allah Ghazanfar 6-26) by 92 runs with 234 in 50 overs (Mohammad Nabi 84, Hashmatullah Shahidi 52; Taskin Ahmed 4-53, Mustafizur Rahman 4-58).
