Paralympics:

The 26-year-old Turkish archer Oznur Cure Girdi rose to fame during the Paralympics in Paris in 2024. She broke the compound women's world record in the ranking round with a score of over 700, and she continued to play excellently into the elimination stages.

In the last Oznur won her first Paralympic gold after defeating Fatemeh Hemmati of Iran 144–141 in the final.

Cure Girdi took advantage of possibilities to score two points by making consecutive 10s and 9s after they drew in the first end. She maintained the gold, leading by three points going into the last end.

She declared once and for all that she was the greatest competitor in the match. She seemed to be unbeatable. And so was she. "I believed in the medal already after the ranking round and my world record," the 26-year-old contender said.

After the final arrow, Cure Girdi wept with joy. "I believed that I would prevail! Now that it's around my neck! I'm ecstatic. I worked very hard on this. It's amazing!

She let out loud cheers and sobbed throughout the celebration, but she also maintained her composure as things were about to get serious. As the newly crowned Paralympic Champion put it, "We actually worked very hard on this, too."

We have a large team and collaborate closely with our psychologist. Throughout the preparation phase, we engaged in a variety of activities to assist me control my anxiety. During the competition, I found it handy," said Oznur. "During my training, I tried all those things, including trying to feel the pressure, and I was able to control it easily during the competition."That was a familiar experience for me. I'm relieved I could handle the pressure.

Our psychologist and I work closely together as a huge team. We did a range of activities to help me manage my anxiety during the planning stage. I found it useful during the competition," Oznur remarked. "During my training, I tried all those things, including trying to feel the pressure, and I was able to control it easily during the competition." I could relate to that event. I'm relieved that I could take the strain.
