Argentina Vs Chile

Player rankings for Argentina vs. Chile: La Albiceleste win World Cup qualifying thanks to the performances of Julian Alvarez and Alexis Mac Allister in Lionel Messi's absence.

The encounter on Thursday was dominated by the world champions, and the new Atletiyco Madrid player demonstrated why the Rojiblancos paid a high price for him.

Argentina defeated Chile 3-0 in World Cup qualification on Thursday, avoiding a hangover from their Copa America victory in their first game since winning the 2024 trophy. Paulo Dybala, Julian Alvarez, and Alexis Mac Allister all scored goals to ensure an overwhelming victory and all three points.

All of the spectators, both local and international, watched as Argentina honored and said farewell to the legendary Angel Di Maria prior to the match, La Albiceleste. With his family by his side, the explosive winger made an emotional speech in front of a sold-out audience, with cheers resonating from all around and flashlights gleaming from the stands as he announced his international retirement following the Copa victory.

The first forty-five minutes of play were intense and competitive, and by halftime, neither team had scored a goal. But Argentina came out of halftime firing, and three minutes into the second half, Mac Allister scored with an assist from Alvarez to give Argentina a 1-0 lead.

The player from Liverpool did not make the most of the last forty-five minutes; instead, it was Alvarez who brought life to the main arena while Lionel Messi was sidelined with an injury. In a front-two, the Atletico Madrid striker appeared at ease, and in the 84th minute, his opportunity came. After receiving the ball on the edge of the box, he made a beautiful move and unleashed a rocket of a shot that struck the crossbar and bounced in. During stoppage time, Roma forward Dybala scored a third goal by striking the net after coming off the bench.

With the win, Lionel Scaloni's team maintained their lead of 18 points out of 21 in the CONMEBOL standings for World Cup qualifying. They are ahead of second place by five points position Uruguay, followed in third by Colombia, Argentina's next opponents on Tuesday.
