FC Bayern takes on Kiel, the underdog; is Palhinha celebrating his debut?
Should the match take place this evening in Kiel's Holstein Stadium, the distribution of roles should be evident. The Bundesliga's Neuling Kiel then takes on the record-holder Bayern - an opening position that, in the eyes of the Störche, is perhaps not much worse than it could be after the first two stinging losses in the league. The fact that Holstein Kiel is the only team from the current Bundesliga season with a winning record against the FCB (five victories, one tie, and four losses) is noteworthy in this regard.
The Bayern remember their lone encounter in an obligatory game as anything but pleasant. It was in the second round of the DFB playoffs in the 2020–21 season that one had to accept the painful exit from the Elfmeterschießen. However, the signs are different this morning, as the record holder confidently made his way to Kiel. With a perfect score of six points, the Bayern have successfully completed their first two league mandatory tasks under new coach Vincent Kompany. Even in the first round of the DFB playoffs, there were no upsets in the roughly 4:0 victory against the Second Division Leading SSV Ulm. Individually, FCB-Coach Kompany should at least hope for a comeback in the offensive.
