Australia Women Vs New Zealand Women

Women's T20 World Cup: How Australia's decisive victory over New Zealand would help India advance to the semifinals.

India's path to the semifinals is made more difficult by Australia's commanding 60-run victory over New Zealand in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup, which places them atop Group A. To increase their net run rate and guarantee a berth in the top two, India have to win their next two games handily. Pakistan and New Zealand are still very much in the running.

NEW DELHI: In the UAE-hosted ICC Women's T20 World Cup, reigning champions Australia put up a dominant display, thrashing New Zealand by 60 runs take the lead in Group A.

Australia dismissed New Zealand for just 88 runs in 19.2 overs on Tuesday after setting a lofty goal of 149 runs. Australia now leads the group with an outstanding net run rate (NRR) of +2.524 and has four points from two games after their convincing win.

However, Australia's tally of 148—just the second team batting first in this World Cup to score 125 or more—proved to be more than sufficient. Georgia Plimmer was dismissed in her second over by Megan Schutt, who gave them the ideal start and went on to become the top wicket-taker in the Women's T20 World Cups. Amelia Kerr and Suzie Bates put up 47 for the second wicket, halting further advances for a while. However, the partnership found it difficult to set boundaries, which led to further pressure once they were crossed. Sophie Molineux overcame Bates to make the discovery that set off a downhill spiral.
