India Vs Bangladesh

The reason for Mohammed Shami's exclusion from India's Test team for the New Zealand series.

NEW DELHI: With some significant changes, the Indian selectors have revealed a 15-man team for the forthcoming three-match Test series against New Zealand. Jasprit Bumrah has been named the team's vice-captain, and Mohammed Shami, an experienced bowler, has been left off.

Yash Dayal, a left-arm bowler who was included in the team for the Bangladesh series, has been dropped by the selectors. Bengaluru (October 16–20), Pune (October 24-28), and Mumbai (November 1–5) will host the three Test matches. "India's 15-man squad for the forthcoming three-match IDFC FIRST Bank Test series against New Zealand has been selected by the Men's Selection Committee," BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a statement on Friday.

It appears from this approach that the selectors are training him to be the backup captain in the event that regular captain Rohit Sharma is unable to play. The team's intentions for the forthcoming five-match series against Australia probably include Bumrah's promotion. If the team management decides on a three-pronged speed attack, Mohammed Siraj and Akash Deep will assist Bumrah in the pace department. Young bowler Mayank Yadav, who made an impression in his debut against Bangladesh, and Prasidh Krishna are part of the traveling reserves and may offer extra cover if necessary.

Why shami misses out?

Shami is still not available for selection after missing the Men's World Cup final against Australia in November of last year. After suffering an injury during the World Cup, he had surgery, and he hopes to return for the Australia series. Shami has had extra time to recuperate and be ready for the pivotal series against Australia thanks to India's spin-friendly surfaces.

With Ravichandran Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav fighting for slots in the starting lineup, the team still relies mostly on spin. Yashasvi Jaiswal and Rohit Sharma are likely to assume responsibility, as they did against Bangladesh, and the selectors have not chosen a backup opener.
Rishabh Pant and Dhruv Jurel are the alternatives for wicketkeeping, and Shubman Gill is probably going to stay batting at number three.
