Does Cristiano Ronaldo care about Portugal? According to Roberto Martinez, his squad lacks "magic in the box" during a disheartening goalless draw with Scotland.
After Scotland held Cristiano Ronaldo and company to a draw, Roberto Martinez acknowledged that Portugal lacked "magic" in their assault.
What Happened?
Portugal's Nations League match against Scotland ended in a 0-0 stalemate on Tuesday, making for a dismal evening at Hampden Park. After the game, fans criticized Ronaldo, 39, for "holding Portugal back." The Al-Nassr squandered many opportunities and was seen furiously yelling at the referee following the draw.
The Bigger Picture.
With Diogo Jota, Rafael Leao, Bernardo Silva, Joao Felix, and Francisco Conceicao all playing with Ronaldo against Scotland, Portugal has an amazing assortment of offensive quality at their disposal. Martinez will be concerned since none of them were able to get past Craig Gordon in the Scotland goal. Later, the Portugal manager acknowledged that his team's offensive was insufficient.
The Martinez Said.
"A decision, a bit of magic in the box," Martinez said to Record when asked what his squad had been lacking following the game. We worked really effectively without the ball and had a lot of passion. We might have had possession, but Scotland doesn't need much to score, so it was a risky game. Although we shown freshness, the latter third was when we lacked it. Scotland deserves recognition as well since they had several players in front of goal and their goalie produced an incredible save. The Portugal manager also mentioned how another pitch invader accosted Ronaldo at the conclusion of the match.
"Unfortunately it has happened many times," he stated. Even in the Euros, that wasn't the first time. Other games had experienced it. We are aware of the excitement he adds to the game, and he is a legendary character. However, if someone approaches the pitch with malicious intent, it may be quite hazardous.
Twenty-one years and four days after making his debut for the national team, Ronaldo earned his 200th start for Portugal against Scotland. Ronaldo will try to go back to scoring goals at Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia before rejoining Portugal in November for Nations League games against Croatia and Poland.
