South Africa vs Sri Lanka: Jansen Shines as Sri Lanka Hits Historic Low

On Day 2 of the first Test between South Africa and Sri Lanka at Kingsmead, Durban, Marco Jansen produced a career-best performance, dismantling Sri Lanka for their lowest-ever Test score of 42. Jansen’s devastating figures of 7 for 13 in just 13.5 overs also contributed to the second-shortest innings in Test history. His lethal pace and swing wreaked havoc as Sri Lanka faltered under pressure.

After scoring 191 runs in the first innings and dismissing Sri Lanka for just 42 runs in 13.5 overs, Proteas took a dominant 149-run lead on Thursday. They increased the margin to 281 runs at the end of the second day's play, finishing at 132 for 3 in 40 overs.

South Africa, who managed a modest 191 in their first innings, secured a commanding 149-run lead. Temba Bavuma's resilient 70 was the highlight for the hosts, as Sri Lankan bowlers, particularly Lahiru Kumara, put up a spirited fight.

By the end of Day 2, South Africa extended their lead to 281 runs, reaching 132/3 in their second innings. Bavuma’s form continued, while young talents like Tristan Stubbs showed promise.

Despite flashes of brilliance from Sri Lanka's bowlers, including Prabath Jayasuriya achieving the milestone of 100 Test wickets, their batting lineup’s collapse left them with an uphill battle to save the match.

With a massive lead and Sri Lanka's morale shaken, South Africa remains in a dominant position heading into Day 3.
