According to Andre Coley, the West Indies wants to end 2024 with a bang.
As they get ready to play Bangladesh in the two-match Test series, which is set to begin in Antigua on November 22, West Indies head coach Andre Coley stated on Wednesday that the team must move past their disappointing home Test series against South Africa and look forward to finishing the year on a high note.
Given that Bangladesh and the West Indies are now ranked eighth and ninth in the WTC rankings, respectively, with point percentages of 27.50 and 18.52, the series barely matters to either team, despite being a part of the World Test Championship. Though their only Test victory is still in the 1-1 drew series against Australia, the host will be keen to end the year with a victory. Following their three straight defeats to England in the series against Australia, the West Indies lost their way. However, they recovered against South Africa, drawing the first Test but losing the second by 40 runs, which Coley says is a huge letdown.
"This is the last four Test matches in this edition of the World Test Championship, so it's crucial that we perform well here, win the series, and gain momentum before traveling to Pakistan. First, we need to win on home soil.
"Every participant has a chance. Some of our players have played both home and away matches against Bangladesh and have won those series. guys know one another, and we have some new guys who haven't played any of those series," Coley said. "It's an opportunity for senior players and emerging players you know to show we are capable of as a team and we continue to build and put everything together on the back of last year and year and half and as you said look to close on the year in really good form."
On November 30, the second Test will take place in Jamaica.
