Chennaiyin vs East Bengal

ISL 2024–25: East Bengal FC defeats Chennaiyin FC 2-0 away from home for their second straight victory

East Bengal FC defeated hosts Chennaiyin FC 2-0 on Saturday at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium in Chennai to record their second straight victory in the current Indian Super League season.

Before Jeakson Singh's goal in the 84th minute clinched the victory for the visitors, who had already defeated NorthEast United FC in their last match, PV Vishnu scored the game's opening goal as the Torchbearers edged ahead in the 54th.

On that particular day, Owen Coyle chose to start Mohammad Nawaz in goal behind the defensive duo of Mandar Rao Desai, Laldianpuia, Laldinliana Renthlei, and captain Ryan Edwards. Daniel Chukwu Chima and Irfan Yadawan began up front, while Connor Shields, Lukas Brambilla, Lalrinliana Hnamte, and Farukh Choudhary formed the midfield.
Provat Lakra, Hijazi Maher, Anwar Ali, and Mohammad Rakip were in defense, while Oscar Bruzon started Prabhshukan Gill in goal. The goal was to feed in lone striker Dimitrios Diamantakos with the midfield five of Mahesh Singh Naorem, Saul Crespo, Medih Tala, Souvik Chakrabarti, and PV Vishnu.

With many half-chances for the home team, the first quarter of the game flew past as the teams fought for possession of the ball. The most noteworthy was Shields's risky-looking cross into the middle of the danger area, which found its way to the head of the jumping Chukwu Chima, who made substantial touch with the floating ball but was unable to retain his attempt on goal.

The torchbearers thought of a maneuver to enter the opposing box, which resulted in a skillfully lobbed ball beyond the home team's defensive line. However, the supply fell in a region acute with respect to the goalpost and eventually came to naught.

A repurposed tifo from EBFC's Bangalore days was displayed next to a "Probashe" banner, and the hundred-year-old club's devoted supporters were present to engage in conversation in the stands.

After the three-man challenge, a fan claimed a Chennaiyin shirt for himself as part of the halftime activations of the "Perfect Kick," which aims to bring the ball to the center of the pitch from the d-box. To make apologies with the front line, Bruzon decided to open the second half with Brazilian Cleiton Silva. Following strong effort by the visitors on the right to identify the weakness in the CFC armor, Vishnu nudged the ball into the net in the 53rd minute of play, igniting the away crowd.

Around the hour mark, Jeakson Singh ventured onto the turf, forcing EBFC captain Crespo to be carried off the pitch.

In an attempt to bring the game back to level, Coyle substituted Wilmar Jordan Gil and Vincy Baretto for Chukwu Chima and Yadawad, amid the thunderous cheers of the home crowd. Soon after, Gurkirat Singh replaced Choudhary.

As time passed and desperation set in, CFC was the culprit behind a few awkward challenges near the danger region. When Coyle substituted Elsinho and Kiyan Nassiri for Brambilla and Hnamte in the 72nd minute, he threw the kitchen sink at the match.

As the traveling supporters yelled "East Bengal" long into the Chennai sunset, Jeakson struck a belter from beyond the box in the 84th minute of the match, putting the outcome beyond question for EBFC.
