Detroit ended a seven-game road losing run against the Lakers since 2017 when they defeated them at home last month.

With 2 1/2 minutes remaining, Detroit had a 117-106 lead, but the Lakers rallied eight baskets in a row, keyed by a clutch layup by James with 46 seconds remaining. Late in the first half, an anticipated big-man matchup between France's Victor Wembanyama and Cameroon's Embiid ended, and Tyrese Maxey scored 32 points, pulled down 10 rebounds, and dished out eight assists to help fuel the victory."It's big time," Maxey remarked in reference to Embiid's victory. "We're getting used to playing without him." We must alter the game, play a bit tougher, come in a little quicker, and grab more rebounds.

Following Maxey's late push with a steal, slam, 3-pointer, and free throw in a game-ending 9-3 victory to deliver the home victory, Embiid stepped onto the floor and gave him a hug."Man," Maxey remarked, "it's love." "My big brother has been that for a very long time."

When Wembanyama fell to the court after making contact with Andre Drummond of Philadelphia, who was sent off for a second technical foul, chaos broke out 3:47 into the second session. After a video review, it was later reversed to a "Wemby" flop foul, enabling Drummond to return to the game.
