India vs England 1st T20I: India Chases 133 After Restricting England at Eden Gardens

January 22, 2025

In the opening match of the five-match T20I series at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, India won the toss and elected to field against England.

England's Innings:

England faced challenges early on, losing opener Phil Salt for a duck in the first over, caught behind off Arshdeep Singh's delivery.

Captain Jos Buttler anchored the innings with a resilient 68 runs, but lacked substantial support from the other end. England's batting lineup struggled against India's disciplined bowling attack, managing to post a total of 132 runs in their allotted 20 overs.

India's Bowling Highlights:

Arshdeep Singh: Led the bowling attack with precision, claiming key wickets and applying pressure on England's top order.

Varun Chakravarthy: Utilized the conditions effectively, contributing to the wicket tally and maintaining an economical spell.

India's Response:

Chasing a target of 133, India began their innings with openers Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson. The duo aimed to build a solid foundation, facing England's pace-heavy attack led by Jofra Archer.

Notably, India's experienced pacer Mohammed Shami was absent from the playing XI, with the team opting for a combination that included three spinners to exploit the pitch conditions.

As the match progresses, India will look to capitalize on their bowling efforts and secure a win in the series opener, while England's bowlers will strive to defend the modest total and challenge the Indian batting lineup.
