South Africa secured a comprehensive 10-wicket win against Pakistan in the second Test at Newlands, Cape Town, sweeping the series 2-0.
Resuming their second innings at 312 for three, Pakistan's batting lineup added 166 runs before being dismissed for 478. Captain Shan Masood led the effort with an impressive 137 not out, marking his fifth Test century. Despite Masood's resilience, Pakistan's total left South Africa needing just 58 runs to win.
South African openers David Bedingham and Aiden Markram chased down the target swiftly, reaching 60 without loss in just 7.1 overs. Bedingham was particularly aggressive, scoring an unbeaten 44 off 30 balls.
This victory not only sealed the series for South Africa but also extended their winning streak to seven matches. The team had already secured a spot in the World Test Championship final following their win in the first Test at Centurion.
Pakistan faced challenges throughout the series, including an injury to opener Saim Ayub, who fractured his ankle while fielding on the first day of the second Test. Despite these setbacks, Masood's performance stood out as a positive for the visitors.
South Africa's bowlers were instrumental in the series victory, with Kagiso Rabada and Marco Jansen delivering crucial breakthroughs at key moments.
Looking ahead, South Africa will prepare for the World Test Championship final at Lord's in June, while Pakistan will aim to regroup and address the issues that led to their series defeat.
