In a high-scoring encounter on January 2, 2025, Sri Lanka clinched a thrilling seven-run victory against New Zealand in the third T20I, thanks to a scintillating century by Kusal Perera.

Perera's explosive innings of 101 runs off just 46 balls, marking his maiden T20I century and the fastest by a Sri Lankan, powered the visitors to an imposing total of 218 for 5. 

New Zealand's chase was spearheaded by Rachin Ravindra, who scored 69 runs, and Tim Robinson, contributing 37, with an opening partnership of 81 runs.

After losing the toss, Sri Lanka was put in to bat and made the most of favorable conditions. Kusal Perera was the star of the show, smashing a breathtaking 101 off just 46 deliveries. His innings included 10 boundaries and 6 sixes, showcasing his ability to dominate even world-class bowling attacks.

Supported by Pathum Nissanka (32 off 25) and a late flourish from Charith Asalanka (28 off 13), Sri Lanka posted a massive 218/5 in their 20 overs. New Zealand bowlers struggled for control, with Trent Boult and Lockie Ferguson going for over 10 runs an over.

Despite their efforts, and a late surge by Daryl Mitchell, who hit four consecutive sixes in his 35-run cameo, New Zealand fell short, finishing at 211 for 7. 

Charith Asalanka was instrumental with the ball for Sri Lanka, claiming 3 wickets for 50 runs, while Wanindu Hasaranga added 2 for 38.

While Sri Lanka managed to salvage pride with this win, New Zealand claimed the T20I series 2-1. Both teams now shift their focus to the ODI series starting on January 5, 2025, at Wellington, as they prepare for the ICC Cricket World Cup later this year.
